nos vemos
you know, sonia and i have been talking through and working on ways to change our life. nothing drastic or strange, just a standard evaluation of life and schedule that normal people do. we want to make sure that we are doing the right things and not allowing ourselves to get burned out.currently, we are not burned out. we are a little tired though because we haven't been very good about certain things.
so here we go. lemme give you an idea of the things that we have been talking about.
The To-Do List
- Watch less television. This has been a relaxation time for both os us, where we vegetate in front of the tube. But in time, we have realized that although it does do that, it also engages our mind so that when we turn the TV off, sleep does not come immediately. So instead, we will watch less television and enforece a strict "no TV after 9pm" rule that is followed by some light reading so that we can relax our minds and sleep well. Don't trip though, of course Jack Bauer is the exception to that rule!!
- Work out more. I have been working out as of late and i actually have a lot more energy and feel better. That's the expected outcome, right? Well, Sonia has been sick for almost a month, even getting as far as bronchitis, so she hasn;t been able to exercise. And I can see the difference in her energy level.
- Focus our energies better in ministry. We (read: I) need to stop trying to do everything and focus more effectively. I already stopped leading music on Sunday mornings because of time issues. But I will keep playing with whoever is leading and wants me to play. I enjoy that. But as far as College Ministry and Youth Ministry go, I need to be smarter with my time. I find that I can get into a mode of floating with the current, but instead, I want to be specific about the things I do.
- Get out more. We realized on our last vacation that we need to leave Los Angeles to have a real vacation.
- Cell Phone. I am going to learn to turn off my phone when I am having Sonia time. I always feel like the one important call is gonna come during that time i have it off. But I have to learn that 1) Sonia deserves my undivided attention and 2) God is on it
- Limit Distractions. As many of you have learned, ait's pretty easy to hit me via email or myspace throughout the day. Well, that is gonna change. My email notification is going off after I write this blog and I'll check it periodically throughout the day. If you email me, expect a little lag. Myspace can wait too dang it!! I read in an email that Steve sent me and Sonia that people spend up to 25 minutes refocusing on the task they were working on before the distraction. Terrible...
- Blogging. As much as I love doing this, I am going to stop blogging. Most of you that read this are constant fixtures in my life anyways so we're gonna just have to speak about these things in person (what a novel idea huh?). It's pretty time consuming and I want to be better about my time. I'll check in on blogs from time to time to see what's up, but I just don't have the time anymore.
- Mini-Me Site. I will however keep up the Mini-Me site with pictures and videos of Gabriel.
Nothing has changed in terms of my mission in life, my calling as a minister and a husband/father. I believe that these changes will make me better at all of those.
So unlike some that say they won't blog anymore but still do (LOL Yepiz), I'm out for good.
And for old times sake, I have compiled a list of my favorite blogs from inception. Here you go (in chronological order).
- White Power!'
- Fruit Of My Loin
- Proof That I Love My Wife
- Wearing My Heart On My Sleeve
- Answered Prayer
- 3017
- My 30th Birthday
- Steve Harvey
- Gabriel Moises Tovar-Welcome
- Skydiving
- It's Coming Back - I Promise
- Scared Straight
See ya in the real world suckas!!!
