"the fruit of my loin"

if you are reading this blog, chances are you know that Sonia and I are going to have a baby. In a few days, I will post the ultrasound pictures for you guys to muse on.

i have had about 5 weeks to consider what this means for my life. i have been running my mind through each scenario, every possibility. in response to those things, I have put together my top 5 commitments to my family for all of you to read and hold me to. Here they go:

1. I will raise my child to understand the truths laid out in the Bible from the beginning. I will do my best to teach my child how to have an authentic relationship with Jesus through the "discipline and instruction of the Lord" (Ephesians 6:4b), and I will raise him/her up to be my brother/sister in the Lord.
   
   
2. I will pray for my family daily. I have been praying for Sonia and the baby daily since I learned that she was pregnant. It has been very therapeautic to remember that their fate lies in the hands of God, not in my own protection. I will continue that until my last breath.
   
   
3. I will be active in every portion of my child's life, from education to activities, to church life and home life.
   
   
4. Sonia will always come first. I know in my heart that God has given me quite a gift in Sonia, and she will always hold the highest (human) position in my life. I will not lay her to the side to serve my child.
   
   
5. I will never allow my ministry to interfere in my home.
