book suggestions
I have been on this interesting journey in my faith over the last few years. Learning and growing, stretching and understanding deeper. It has been good times. Sonia and I both have come a long way.
I have been looking online for books to supplement and challenge my thinking. The only problem is, I don't want to go out there and buy some cheesy pep-rally Christian book that reminds me that I need to be a "warrior" or something. I am a grown man, I don't want to hear that hype anymore. I want some truth written by real seekers. I want some honest reflective books that enumerate what is happening in my spiritual life. I want some books that point me towards a relationship with God that isn't full of Christian rhetoric. I want books written by people that are not writing to the masses for personal financial gain.
I'll skip on the "Your Greatest Life Now" thing, thanks.
I went recently to the book section of my local Christian bookstore, and I couldn't find one thing that I wanted to read. Perhaps there is a gem in there marketed for the masses instead of marketed honestly and it fell through my filter. Who knows? But that's sad, don't you think?
If you guys know of any good books that you have read, please post. Maybe others might want to read them too.

Post a CommentI'm on the same journey, my friend. especially since Carey asked me to jot down the list of the books I want for Cmas. If I run across some I want, I'll forward you the list... until then, you can borrow my copy of "The Gospel according to the Simpsons" if you think you'd like that.
my number one book suggestion -
The Divine Conspiracy by Dallas Willard
i think it meets all your criteria. got it for our friend in jail, and he'll tell you what it did for him if you want to know. richard foster says of this book - "the book i have been searching for all my life." willard later jointly authored Renovation of the Heart with richard foster, but start with Divine Conspiracy. warning - it may be the mt everest of books, but well worth the climb.

Wow, Steve's pic is just hilarious!
in the small view, the shape looks a bit like one of Marge Simpson's sisters hair.
oddly, though, I bet he had to fight the girls off with that hair.
It's like, gosh, idiot! sweet!
