strange but interesting...

i read this article about some christians in the midwest (go figure) that are bent on "redeeming" the United States.

this particilar group is encouraging people to take the US back one state at a time. the first state that they are targeting is south carolina. they want all the super conservative christians (aka alex) to move out there so that when there are enough of them, they can elect christian officials, and effectively ban abortions, gay marriages, etc. this is probably the most creative way of trying to do this that i have seen in a long time. i am all for the things they want, i am all for christian values dominating state laws. but it seems wierd to me. i can just see these dudes singing "cumbaya" and wearing the latest "God's Gym" t-shirts while listening to their old Petra tapes and brushing their mullets.

those of you that know me well, know that i am not a big fan of the "christian roots of america" argument. i will concede that our nation was founded by christians with christian ideals, but we are steadily moving away and it's only gonna get worse. although the majority of our nation still votes conservatively (see the 2004 election results), that doesn't mean that the country still holds christian values and ideals. and as time goes by, those morals are going the way of the buffalo.

the more i thought of it though, the more i thought that they do have something right... in principle. they are christian family working together to accomplish a goal, the furthering of christian values in this case. i can't be mad at that...

currently they have 5 families and 2 individuals that have moved to south carolina. should I chalk you up for family #6 Alex?
