the people have spoken...temporarily

so what is the deal with the veto? i was watching the news this morning to see the results of the California special election (which turned out very similar to my ballot by the way!) and it said that Ah-nold promised a veto on Prop 73 (the one about abortion).
So let me get this straight...
  1. Ah-nold spends $50 million for a special election
  2. The people of California vote to support the proposition
  3. Ah-nold gets to veto it
What is wrong with this picture?

I think it is time to pick up arms and start a revolution, and help California return to its rightful owner, Mexico. At least there, when they screw us, the look us in the eye.

EDIT - Added Nov 9 at 2pm - What I Voted For/Against

Prop 73 - Yes. I am for anything that slows the killing process.
Prop 74 - No. Lengthening the tenure process does nothing to address the real problems in our school system, it only puts good teachers in greater risk. we need adequate resources, not more beaurocracy. the education system is largely political. if dismissal is based on a few bad reviews from your principal, then what stops them from ousting you because they don't like you? if you don't get that, then you've never had a friend or relative in the system. it is like a bunch of 4 years olds who turn on each other over stupid stuff. principals know in 2 years whether a teacher is going to be good or not. they don't need 5 years to figure out if you are wack. this doesn't help the matter at all. if you really want to cripple the system, then silence teachers who will not speak out for fear of being railroaded by their principal at year 4 1/2.
Prop 75 - No. The U.S. Supreme Court already says no public employee can be forced to join a union and contribute dues to politics. The only thing this does is force a hand on our unions, and that is a problem. The unions protect us from unfair treatment. They should not have a hand in our affairs. Furthermore, we elect our union officials. Sound like a democracy? Yep. If you don't like the decisions they make, vote someone else in or don't join. But keep the government out of the unions.
Prop 76 - No. First of all, our schools don't have money as it is. Now you want me to vote to allow the Terminator to "terminate" his debt to the school system, one he promised to repay when he took it? Nope. Accountability was the platform he campaigned on, and he needs to be held accountable to it. I am not voting to keep giving the school system more and more money, they should be responsible with what they have. But I also will not vote to further cripple them. If they would have left that out, I might have considered it.
Prop 77 - No. We lose the right to reject the redistricting. They get to pick the judges that they want to approve the redistricting????? Nope.
Prop 78 - No. didn't care much. probably should but I don't. I voted no simply because it costs me money.
Prop 79 - Same as above.
Prop 80 - No. Anytime you take choices away from the consumer, this is a bad thing.

ah-nold has been in sacramento long enough to learn how the game is played apparently. that's what they do...the governor, the legislators, the judges, all those political hacks. i guess he figures if you can't reform the system, just manipulate it like everyone else. you can like the outcome of their manipulation or dislike it. the point is, our “of, by and for the people” system of government is broken. so we pray for our elected officials, and pray that the salt in this country gets saltier and the lights burn brighter. caesar has never been the answer, and can never be our hope for real change.

Alex, relax...breathe...first of all, the Mexico comment was meant to have a little fun with you...mission accomplished.

Second, I said the outcome was similar, not identical. The stuff I voted against merely created more red tape and beaurocracy. You are for that aren't you?

you vote like a conservative with a vengance. that's cool homie, but I am not a liberal. if I was a liberal, I would have voted against 73, which I did not.

take your NRA hat off for a second and wipe your brow, you're sweating!

IN RESPONSE TO TENURE: Tenure protects veteran teachers from being replaced at by a 21 year old recent college grad. Let's be honest, you don't need 25 years experience to teach 2+2. You just need the degree and teaching skills a.k.a. recent college grad. Take tenure away, and your career will be over in 10 years, if that. Especially with the financial state of the system. They'll cut spending by releasing the teachers that make more money.

IN RESPONSE TO UNIONS: My union doesn't ask me a whole lot. I do know that the more they need to consult about, the more money it costs. For example, union meetings happen more frequently = MONEY; union reps & lawyers work more = MONEY. All that amounts to higher dues, which I like to call taxes. :) It is the same problem you always complain against. More beurocracy.

IN RESPONSE TO 76: Spending more than you make is not the issue. We already have laws that mandate a balanced budget. The beef I had with it was that Ah-nold was trying to forgive himself the debt he owes to the schools. Like I said in my post, if he would have left that out, I would have considered it. I believe in holding politicians accountable. You can't just say you are going to pay back a loan from the already strapped school system and then turn around and say "Nah, let's just forget about that."
