answered prayer?

i have often thought about god's involvement in my day to day life, and how he answers prayer on a practical level. i'm not talking about praying for healing from cancer or anything, something more menial...like trying to find my keys. is god involved in that? would he actually answer my prayer if i asked him to help me find my keys?

my intellectual answer is that of course he can.

if you prayed for help with your keys and they fell off a shelf and landed on your lap, i think you would be very quick to say that god answered that prayer. but what about if you pray and you find your keys in the very spot you have looked already like 10 times? what would you think then?

that very thing happened to me this morning. i have been looking for my keys for days, and i have searched my car about 10 times over the last week. this morning, i even woke sonia up from her slumber and asked her if she had seen them because i was beginning to worry. i walked to my truck and asked god to help me. i leaned in and the very first thing i see is my keys.

now, i can intellectually say to myself that i should have looked harder before. i must have missed them. or i can remember that i just asked the creator of the universe, who knows how mny hairs i have on my head, for help and there they are.

why wouldn't he help? why wouldn't he answer even the smallest of prayers? is it too hard for him? does he not have time to handle that?

sometimes, god's blessings and answers come small. i choose to not be a pessimist and a skeptic...thanks for my keys god!

thanks for looking sonia. i didn't think you'd even remember because you were half asleep when we talked.

perception really does seem to be the key. god must get mad at times when we just chalk things up as coincidence that he orchestrates as a blessing for us. we need to give credit to god more often for small blessings.

i think i'm going to try to do what that guy said sam. consciously focus in the morning about the fact that god is speaking to me all of the time. maybe that will help me to hear his voice a little better.

This vaguely reminds me of that time long ago when it was the first and only time I played "Bible Bingo". I was a teen with great angst at the time and I opened my bible randomly and I covered my eyes and pointed to: "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me". (Philippians. 4:13) No lie!
