my first time(s)
i experienced 2 very important 1st's with my motorcycle this morning. keep up okay?
i went on my first solo ride on my motorcycle. i got up nice and early and went all the way to the beach. it was so much fun. i just jumped on beach blvd. here in whittier and took it all the way to the beach. i love the feeling of the cold air on my face, the pull of the bike under my crack. there's nothing like it. not to mention, all of the bike riders out there wave when you go by. it feels like i'm part of some cool fraternity now.
after about 2hrs., i went by the pad before taking the bike back to samdog's where i have been storing it. i chilled with son for a minute and then jumped back on the bike and headed to sammy's. somewhere on painter south of beverly, i took my very first spill on the bike. i ate pavement y'all.
you know how they say that most accidents happen within 5 miles of your house. they were right.
anyways, so i was driving north on painter and i was coming to a stop. i was probably going about 10-15MPH. Then on my left side, a 2 stroke dirt bike came and passed me. I am not sure if he touched me at all, or if he just came close enough to ask me out to dinner, but that dude scared me really bad. The sound of the bike in my grill didn't help either. It was really loud.
Anyways, he was splitting the lane to get to the front, where I was perfectly happy in the lane i was in behind 2 cars.
when it happened, i got startled. i think i might have moved my arms a little and going that slow on the bike, my front wheel turned just a little too much to the left and we both went down. i came down on my right knee and shouder, and my head hit the ground a little.
i jumped up right away, out of instinct. i got out of the road, but no one was behind me. i pulled the bike out of the road and checked it out.
meanwhile, three cars coming from the other direction stopped to see if i was okay. i told them all that i was cool and they jammed.
i scratched up my fairing on the bike and got a couple of bumps and bruises and scratches. but it's all good. life moves on.
but i learned a good lesson doing that. first of all, i was starting to get a little comfortable on the bike, and this restores my healthy fear of the road. and second, don't get scared when things like that happen. i probably could have avoided that spill if i would have not reacted like that.
anyways, things are good and i'll be out my bike next weekend baby.

Post a CommentWow! i'm glad you weren't seriously injured. they (whoever they is) say most bikers have a crash at sometime. but so do a lot of cagers (that's automobile drivers for you non-bikers).
and yeah the biker fraternity is so cool (except the owners of one brand of bike tends to be snobs. the brand? i'll only give a hint...it starts with du and ends with cati.) but not all of them are snobs. wave to your brother and sister bikers on the road, and feel like you're having a family reunion when you stop where bikers stop. welcome to the fraternity! (or would it be sorority since we have women bikers too?)
and you know what they say: you meet the nicest people on a honda.
Geeez! Be careful. Well, I'm sure you are.
I wish I was like you Pablo. When you fall, you just pick yourself right up and move on.
Me? I would've sat there 'licking my wounds' so to speak. Drowning in my own misery, never wanting to get up, face life and just dissolve...
Oops, got carried away there...but unfortunately, it's the truth.
Your story "inspired" me in a way. I've gotta get up and go! Thanks!
thanks amanda. dang, maybe i shoudl fall more often!
naaaaahhhhh...
i heard anthony hopkins, who stars as burt munro, the lead character in the world's fastest indian, quote munro:
you can live more of life in 5 minutes on a motorcycle than you can in a lifetime.
i think there's a lot more important stuff in life than motorcycle riding, but there's nothing quite like riding.
more about the movie here
Isn't it written...
"Ride comes before the fall?"
Just Kidding.....
Motorcycles scare me.......
