netflix movie reviews - only the beginning

sonia and i got netflix recently. pretty dope. so far, we've seen 4 movies courtesy of the mailman. but last night, we watched the best ones yet. i won't bother and review saved and the constant gardener, although the constand gardener was a pretty good film.

kiss kiss bang bang A-
this movie is very witty. be awake when you start it. son and i fell asleep the first time we tried to watch it. i thought that meant the movie was gonna be wack, but we gave it another try and we both loved it. robert downey jr. was perfect in the movie. it's a comedy, but one in the vein of a woody allen flick or something like that. very witty dialog, interesting character and plot twists. overall, a very good movie. and very funny.

highlight: robert downey jr and val kilmer making out in an alley to avoid being arrested. LOL!!
lowlight: robert downey jr and val kilmer making out in an alley to avoid being arrested. nasty.

luther A-
seriously, watch this movie. luther was one of the best movies I've seen in a while. i only gave it an A- because...well, read on and i'll tell you.

luther is the story of martin luther (not luther vandross people), the father of the protestant movement that broke from the catholic church in the early/mid-1500's. it shows his struggle with his faith, and it shows the struggle and opposition he faced in an attempt to rid christianity of terrible practices like indulgences. it is a crash course in the life of martin luther, and has a few interesting little tidbits of information that a lot of people don't know (e.g. that he used to be a priest and eventually married an ex-nun!!). anyways, it was inspirational and will most likely fire you up in your service to the One as well...assuming of course...well, you know.

so why the A-? because hollywood made him look a little nuts at times. there were times that he was alone talking to himself and writhing like he was talking to demons. remember the movie joan of arc? like that. other than that, this was a great movie.

highlight: when luther is struggling, he is talking to his "father", or his mentor priest and the mentor asks him what he wants? luther tells him "i want a god that is merciful! i want a god that loves me!" wow.
lowlight: busted haircuts...crazy monks.
