another crazy weekend part 3 - kim jong-il

this dude is a nutcase. he doesn't care what anyone thinks does he?

anyways, let's forget my ideas of sovereign nations and how i think we are hypocrites to tell him he can't have nukes when we have them. let's forget that the argument people like to pose is that we are civilized and that kim is a tyrant, but we are the only people to have ever dropped a nuke (on civilians i might add). let's forget that the last country i saw on the news invading a foreign country and ousting their leaders was us. forget all of that stuff...forget it all.

and what is left? at the end of the day, what's the question we should really be asking ourselves?

were gabriel and kim jong-il separated at birth???????

Pablo: nutcase? Kim, bad hair and funky wardrobe notwithstanding, is just about the only guy in his country with a steady diet (at least, he's just about the only guy in North Korea who won't be wishing for a little Caesar dressing to have with his lawn clippings tonight). Average per capita income in South Korea is $23,000 a year; in Kim's North Korea, it's $1,700, as he starves his own country to death so he can afford the nuke he wants so badly.

Nutcase? On the contrary, he's coldly rational. Everything he does is with an eye to accomplish his goal, which is to stay in charge and not have to worry about ever going to bed hungry. If he's crazy, he's crazy like a fox. Evil, yes. Sociopathic, certainly. Ronery, yeah, maybe. Definitely in need of a guest appearance on "What Not To Wear." Howl-at-the-moon crazy? I don't think so.

Red China, whose sock puppet he is, is the only thing propping him up and keeping his fiefdom from imploding. His theory is that if he gets a nuke, he can hold the world hostage and keep the civilized world from shoving regime change down his throat. He's already sworn he'll launch his nuke at his rivals. This primarily means Japan, who now has to go nuclear themselves as a defensive posture.

The last thing the world needs is a 5'3" dictator with a nuclear Dong.

Don't forget your history - the whole premise of peace in the Korean Peninsula was a promise by all parties that the peninsula would forever remain non-nuclear. A decade ago, we taught Kim that when he brandishes a nuke, we'll pay him off. He was cheating on the deal before the sound of the clinking champagne glasses died out, and what he's running now largely is a successful protection racket. What do we do, reward this?

Since Gabriel will be as tall as Kim by about age 4, it's never too early to think about a mullet so people don't confuse the two of them. And it's up to you and Sonia to raise him not to be a totalitarian, because Kim's dad and mamma came up short (no joke intended, I swear) in that department.

Hey, and what's with the "Puro Locura" thing? I blogroll you, and you go and change names on me. You know how I was trying to learn that lingo from you, too, and now you throw a whole different language at me...

you got a point about coldly rational. he is definitely that. i mostly meant that he is dancing on a think line between mutually assured anihilation and retaining his regime forever. china won't be down with him for long. they're already showing signs of cutting him off (while still being stupid about the new resolution that they are inhibiting). they might bow down still, but i am trying to be optimistic that they'll distance themselves a little. i hope...

see, the interesting thing is that although i write about the hypocrisy of the united states, it's not like i think this man should have a nuke. but even you Q should not fail to see the irony of our position. it's like if i told my kid that he can't ever get an earring when he grows up. not only do i have one (hypocrisy), when he turns 18 i can't really stop him (sovereign nation), can I. i guess i can cut off his allowance (sanctions), but by then, what difference does it make? he already has a hole in his ear (NK already has their nuke).

i get the treaty and i know they are violating it. from that standpoint, the UN needs to hold their feet to the fire, no doubt.

i just like to point out what some choose not to think about. we are hypocrites, and we are not the god-protected and morally superior country that people want us to be. we are a heathen nation run by people who would like to do the right thing (for the most part) until that right thing causes us discomfort.

it's like jose preached about on sunday. when we sow to the flesh, we reap destruction. when we sow to the spirit, we reap eternal life.

we are slowly reaping what we sow...
