Post a CommentPablo: you just THINK W forgot he was on a live mike. It's actually a clever East Texas ploy to send the message to Hezbollah and make sure they know precisely what he thinks.
After all, ever since we all found out that Al-Qaeda reads the NY Times, what better way to send a message than to let it slip out into the mainstream media and make it look like an accident?
Good thing we're too smart to be fooled. We're on to him.

not the first slip. i'm sure you guys have seen the infamous video of him flipping off the camera. that's hilarious.
i'm sure he didn't think the tape was rolling. they were prepping...
anyways, i guess it could have been on purpose. we'll never know. but given bush's track record of speech mishaps, assorted stupid statements, and other random dumb things that he does, i guess it could go either way.
and besides, if he really was doing it on purpose, he would have never cursed.
What do you mean "the rest of us"? I think it's a big deal. Eph 4:29 matters to anyone claiming to be a Christian.

dude, i wasn't calling him out morally, so slow your roll. read my words, and please don't add to them.
we were talking about whether or not he meant to do it. i cited his cussing as a reason why i think he didn't know the mic was on. and the middle finger as a reason he didn't know the tape was rolling.
and for the record, i don't deny having done those things. if i did them, they were lapses of judgement on my part. i don't do them on a regular basis, nor do i approve of them.
regarding the ephesians thing though, you do kinda have a point. unwholesome is a broad term, and can and should be interpreted in reference to our environment.
i have never heard sonia cuss in the 12+ years that i have known her, not even in jest or retelling a story. she has a right to call the rest of us out on it, and she is right to bring it up because it is pertinent to the discussion.
i would venture to say that the majority of people in the US would say that "shit" is a bad word/unwholesome. bush would think so too, and he would probably agree that most of his constituents would as well. therefore, my original point is still that he didn't know the mic was on or he would never have said that.
At least, he didn't...
spinster.

i wasn't spinning anything.
the def. of spin is to refocus attention on something else to avoid the original focus.
i didn't refocus anything. i PLACED the focus baby...
what about this post or my responses lacks judgement?
Clinton can put his pecker in underage little girls...
BTW, unwholesome...you could have said that another way. my opinion...
Okay, I owe everyone an apology. Mea culpa, mea culpa, mea maxima culpa. For the record, I should have held up a sign at the front of my first comment that read "WARNING - PARODY / SARCASM FOLLOWS." I'm pretty sure W was not thinking the mike was live; I'm pretty sure it wasn't a deliberate attempt to telegraph a message to Hezbollah; I'm pretty sure this incident wasn't part of his "strategery." With tongue firmly planted in cheek, I was trying to be funny.
I will also admit to just the other day using the word "crap" on Mike Katz' blog. The fact that I was using the word in reference to the antics of John and Ken over on KFI may explain the choice of words, but not excuse them. I'm going to go on the assumption that the lapse may have just shishkabobbed my hopes of ever getting elected President.
Finally, I will admit on the record that on September 11, 2001, while driving down the I-710 to my office in Long Beach, I reacted to the news of the attack on the World Trade Ceter with an utterance that I will not repeat on Pablo's blog, and I made that utterance in the presence of an eyewitness. Or earwitness, in this case.
Kudos to Sonia and Pablo - Sonia for her control of her words to express herself, and Pablo for publicly honoring his wife, which is ALWAYS a good way to express oneself.
It's a delight to see Pablo and Alex agree! I'm going to make it a trifecta; in conjunction with sister passages James 3:2-12, Eph 5:4, and other, I agree this covers lying, broken promises and oaths, racial epithets, gossip, rumors, insults, and off-color joking - and I'd bet good money you can think of others. Also, it would apply to nonverbal expression as well, such as that famous middle finger.
So, we've got a two-pronged issue going on here. How should we expect our national leaders to be expressing themselves (publicly, and when they think they're doing so privately), and how should we as Christians be expressing ourselves?
And what are we to do about it?
(NOTE: there were some attempts at humor and levity in the above, and the writer relies on the discernment of his readers to recognize them as they appear and suspend judgment accordingly.)
How should we expect our national leaders to be expressing themselves...
like normal people. but they should be aware that the world is watching.
it's like this blog. everything we write is public. it will haunt us if we write irresponsibly.
Ditto that, Pablo. And also, God is always watching, so everything we do is public to Him. I have lots of private things I'm going to have to answer for to Him.
I am saying that anyone claiming to be a Christian should think that it is a big deal. It was obviously considered unwholesome to everyone who is making a media event about it. That's what matters when we use any of our words...who heard it and what they think--not how many letters the word has.
As to my control of words...it's actually the opposite. As I've told Alex before, I have a problem with the words that I choose to use. I never got into the habit of using cuss words so I don't struggle with not saying them. BUT, I have always struggled with the way I speak to people and the words I choose to put together in a sentence...they're not always very nice. That is why Eph 4:29 is a verse that is stamped in brain. When I was a kid my dad put it on a big poster and stuck it to the fridge, which our table faced. So I had to look at it almost every meal of my life growing up.
I may be wrong, but I believe that the most literal translation of the verse uses the phrase unwholesome "word" not "talk"...so that applies to any word and our intention behind it as well. At least, that is how I have been interpreting the verse.
I have to say that Steve, preached a wonderful message on this about a month and a half ago. He used the verse you are talking about Sonia. I don't think there is a list of words that the Apostle uses, but the gist is if it doesn't build up and edify. I thougt of an officer I know, who told me that at church they think he is to rough because he cusses, and at work with Law enforcement, they think he is to soft. He told me that to say, "Good job," or "I love you bro," his co- workers would think he is gay. He did tell me that they tell each other, "Hey mother f%@$&r," and he said in a weird way you know there is real love behind that.
Anyway just my two cents. You should get that CD from Steve. It is excellent. As a matter of fact when he taught on that I was thinking of this officer and thought I should get it for him.
Peace
