24

ok, i have refrained from posting about jack bauer for a while now. but i think that he has finally earned a spot on my blog.

for anyone that did not watch this week's episode, stop reading here.

let me begin by saying that jack bauer is my hero. not only does he break every rule in the book for the "good of the country" (guantanamo bay anyone?), but he can get everyone else to do it too. see, jack was wanted by the chinese government but still had the skills to disappear when he needed to. remember when they faked his death by stopping his heart and reviving him with an adrenaline shot? that was nuts. but chloe and audrey, they don't have good skills like that. yet they still do whatever jack wants. not to mention that they are in a room full of people who can arrest them and do those crazy interrogation things to them any time they want while jack is out there running rogue with a gun. i love it. they are like pawns in jack's game.

that being said, i have begun to notice a few things that cross over the boundary of unrealistic. i know that 24 is largely unrealistic, but come on now:
  1. since when does it take 5 minutes to travel ANYWHERE in Los Angeles? nice.
  2. jack, wayne palmer and the bank dude wait until the shootout between the police and the hitmen starts to try to leave the bank, right? then the military comes down in the hummers and mows down the hitmen with their mounted machine guns. but they still manage to get away with a cop car through the crossfire. nice.
  3. what in the world was jack thinking playing the recording of logan and henderson to the bank dude? they do EVERYTHING covert, but then they decide to play him a recording of the PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES implicitly involved in an assasination of a former president? nice.
  4. jack, wayne and bank dude have to walk 1/4 mile to the bank because the military has the roads on lock down. but henderson and audrey are driving around for the whole show and they completely ignore that fact.
  5. logan is behind this whole thing? nice.
the bottom line is that although my heart still beats an extra 20 beats per minute during this show, the writers need to be extra careful not to Jump The Shark.

1. remember the time frame...11:00-12:00pm. at that time of night, when LA is under curfew and no one is on the roads, you can actually get somewhere in 5 minutes...especially if you are jack bauer (remember kim? remember stopping his heart? jack bauer is unstoppable)

2. the added troops created more of a distraction, and they weren't there to shoot cops or cop cars. plus, jack bauer is unstoppable.

3. remember jack cannot contact anyone except audrey and chloe since the president of the US has issued a warrant for his capture. he needs the bank pres to be another pawn to carry out his orders, because it is only season 5, and jack has not yet learned how to be in more than one place at a time.

4. henderson has presidential papers to get him through all road blocks, and audrey is d.o.d. and her dad is the secretary of defense. they can go wherever they want. every jack bauer wanna-be is hunting for bauer and palmer, and all the road blocks are on full alert to capture him. you're comparing apples and bacon.

5. logan is your typical insecure leader that has to remove anyone that is a threat to his power, and thinks first and foremost about himself (as do most politicians). he didn't plan the assination, but only signed off on it. guys like henderson do his dirty work for him (unlike pres. palmer, who would do the dirty work himself if need be. don't believe that? then why is he now commanding a covert anti-terror search-and-destroy unit on tuesday nights on cbs?)

what's unrealistic?

can blogs jump the shark? ;-)

Dude,

It's Hollywood. When has any movie or TV Show match real life. I still remeber in Lethal Weapon Mel Gibson running on foot from Hollywood to the Third Street Bridge to xcatch the crook, who was in a car, and not be out of breath, or all those movis and TV shows where guns seem to fire off a thousand rounds. Now since when is there a gun that can do that? To finish "24" will never jump the shark because everyone will always tune in to see next weeks episode.
