highs and lows - a day in the life

this weekend had very high highs and very low lows. let's start from low to high ok?

on a scale from 1-10:
  • usc getting it handed to us by ucla. that was a pathetic game. how you gonna beat notre dame one week so definitively, and then turn around and forget how to play footbal by the next weekend? i 'bout threw up when the clock expired... (-2)
  • almost threw up again as soon as my phone started blowing up after we lost... (0)
  • finding out this morning that the bcs gave the title bid to florida and put michigan in the rose bowl against usc. i would have preferred to play lsu... (2)
  • went to the troy week rally on thursday with wilson, devin, logan, sean, nathan and sam. the rally was dope and we had lots of fun. a channel 5 cameraman interviewed me and sam. he told me he was gonna use my footage, so i called home and everything to make sure the tivo was recording it. needless to say, i'm on a cutting room floor somewhere... (3.5)
  • bought my kid a dwayne jarret jersey while i was on campus to match mine. he'll wear it for a while and then i'm gonna frame it and put it on his wall... (7)
  • the fellas came over for a sleep over on saturday. am i just old or is it a bad sign when you're already ready for bed and they haven't even shown up yet? dang i'm old. we hit in and out and then watched bernie mac destroy the stage in the kings of comedy ("some milk and cookies"). woke up on the floor of my living room at 6:30am with sonia and gabriel looking down at me. i never even made it to my bedroom. but we had a good time. (9)
  • sonia and i went on a date (9)
  • by ourselves (10)
  • to see corinne bailey rae at the roxy (10+++++++)

it was dope. i love to see artists on stage who can actually sing. it's a sad testimony about music today that i have to even be sceptical about that, but it's true. she was perfect. her bass player is sick. the only bad thing was the dumb security guard trying to take my digital camera away.

sg: ** grabbing my arm** give me that camera! (what is this, a rage against the machine concert? why you rolling up on me like we're about to get to it?)
p: no way. ** trying to look hard but starting to sweat like the punk that i am **
sg: i'll give it back to you after the show
p: how do i know that's gonna happen? you gonna give me something in return? i'm not just gonna give you my camera!
authors note: meanwhile corinne is singing these purty songs in the background
sg: put it away or i'm going to take it away. there's no pictures or video allowed.
p: cool. ** puts camera in pucket but secretly tries to remember how to turn off the display on the camera so he won't see the light the next time i take pictures **

and then i turn around to see like 8 digitals in the air along with assorted phones recording her stuff.

WHAT!!! that dude is a racialist! why he gotta pick on the only white man in the room??

-P

ps. the irony of ironies happened to me and sonia last night. we grabbed a hot chocolate from the only coffee joint in the area. sonia won't allow me to broadcast where we were on the internet, but let's just say that along with your hot chocolate, you can purchase an assortment of clothing articles that have about 1 sq.in. of material and come with some sort of liquid with it. anyways, the joint was shady, but we were just trying to get our drinks and bounce, right? anyways, i pit stopped at the bathroom before we left and i laughed out loud as i listened to mariah carey sing "hark, the herald angels sing" over the loud speakers. it was kinda like showing the jesus film dvd in the "back room" of blockbuster. LOL!!!

it was totally last minute mike. in fact, we decided at about 2 pm that day. turned out to be me and a few of the college heads...

actually, what happened was that they wanted to see the band that was performing (the fray).
