skydiving
we arrived at our hotel rooms scattered throughout the evening on Friday night, with the full anticipation of the next day in my throat. it's quite a thing to consider when you are going to jump out of a plane in 10 hours with only a professional and a glorified bed sheet attached to your back.i woke up the next morning with great anticipation, but no fear. i was ready to go. i got a call the night before at about 8pm that the weather report was expecting thick clouds until mid morning, so we should come in at 9 am instead of our expected 7am, so we got a late start (thank god).
when we finally got to the airplane hangar, there was a slight feeling of anxiety among us. we were watching the "training video" which only really told us that skydiving is fun, and all we could do was make fun of the guy speaking. he had a ZZ Top beard that went down to his waist.
anyways, the instructor told us that the clouds were still too thick and that we would have to wait until it broke. the latest weather report was that it would break around noon.
we hit the starbucks for the crack addicts in our group...
30 min.....an hour......1 1/2 hrs.......where is that WalMart we heard about?
so now I find myself in a WalMart reading an article about The Roots in the latest Source magazine, waiting for a phone call. the only phone call i got was from sonia telling me that the girls were hungry.
we agreed to meet up at the taco loco off of h street and central ave. 3 U-Turns later, who would have known that 1 block from the Taco Loco was....you guessed it...the Taco Roco.
30 min......an hour..... 1 1/2 hrs......is there a theatre in this god forsaken city???????
so, United 93 was okay. i liked parts of it, but it was a little over dramatized and it was WAY too long. sonia fell asleep, which i have never seen her do in a movie. i saw a documentary last week on the history channel on the same thing that blew this movie out of the water. nonetheless, it is worth watching to remind yourself of the tragedies that put us in the mess we are in today.
wait a second, wasn't i talking about skydiving? oh yeah...
so we get out of the movie and the sky looks much brighter. is it true, or have we been in a dark room for 2 hrs? no wait, on the horizon, i see a blue patch!!! woo hoo, here we go.
we headed back to the airplane hangar just in time to see my hopes squashed as the patch of blue that we saw was overcome once again by the intense grey cloud ceiling that had been there all morning.
we layed on the floor...played a little foosball...and eventually called it quits at about 5:30pm. it was incredibly disappointing to have come all this way and endured 8 hours of Lompoc only to leave without having my testacles stretched to the limit by going from 120MPH to 10MPH in 2 seconds.
and to make matters worse, we must have driven about 15 minutes out of lompoc before the sky turned blue and sunny. what a drag.
now, we are going to reschedule for early July and see if we can get some more people on board. i can't promise you that we'll jump out of a plane next time either, but i can definitely promise you another exciting adventure in lompoc.

Yeah, you could tell that the actors/characters were trying to act really natural and not like actors. I like the movie even though I fell asleep for the first half.
