"hey jude" (c) paul mccartney

I was working on a friends computer yesterday and was waiting for a piece of software to install. So like most times that I am waiting, I start snooping around on her desk (just kidding). I noticed a small sticker on her cubicle wall that had a glowing cross on it and on top were the words "All Things Are Possible". I get all warm inside thinking about the promises that God has made us, and how I have seen several significant events in the last few months in which God has provided something that only He could have. I also know that her family is going through some tough times, so I am happy for her that she is reminding herself of God's faithfulness. Then I look again, and under the glowing cross it says "With St. Jude". Immediately, my warm fuzzies go away and are replaced with chills. What a mockary! That's borderline blasphemy if you ask me. How do you take a statement made explicitly of God in the Bible and then warp it like that? It's awful.

I have never been a Catholic Church basher, nor do I intend on starting now. However, I have to draw a line in the sand somewhere. It makes me sad that Jesus is on the sidelines in Catholicism. It makes me sad that the one who created all things and holds all things together (Col 1:16-17) is third string. They pray to saints, they pray to Mary, they light candles and think good thoughts. Where is the encouragement from the leadership of the Church to connect with God?? Where is the encouragement to interact with God directly? Where is the encouragement to look at the scripture and see that all things are possible with God (Matthew 19:26), and that we are to ask for things in the name of Jesus (John 14:13), not Jude.

The level of ignorance is staggering...

p.s. if you want to comment, please refrain from outright bashing. i encourage dialogue, but not bashing.
